max_retries_exceeded
It only applies to the EVENTS of the NO VERI*FACTU mode (`POST /v1/companies/{company}/verifactu/events/{id}/retry`): the event exhausted its transmission attempts. Billing records have NO retry limit — art. 16.4 of Order HAC/1177/2024 requires retrying at least once an hour while the incident lasts — so no record retry returns this code any more.

What to do
Read the reason of the last attempt of the event (GET /v1/companies/{company}/verifactu/events/{id}) and fix its underlying cause; an event that exhausted its attempts is not re-queued from the API, so contact support if it still does not go out. If what fails is a billing record there is no limit: fix the cause and use POST /v1/companies/{company}/verifactu/records/{id}/retry (or POST /v1/companies/{company}/verifactu/records/retry-blocked if it is blocked).
